IDEA: Aborition Gardens
I came across the wikipedia article on abortifacients (things that cause abortions) a while back, and had what might be a brillant idea: Abortion Gardens.
According to the article, wild carrot, cimicifuga racemosa (black cohosh), pennyroyal, nutmeg, and artemisia vulgaris (mugwort), are all herbs that can be used to induce abortions -- not that I would recommend it. But, with all of the recent controversy on the topic recently and the ever-looming threat abortions will be criminalized, planting an abortion garden would be an enviromental-friendly way of showing you're pro-choice... and should the shit ever hit the fan, maybe even useful.
I have a feeling there's money to be made selling "Abortion Garden Kits" and supplies to people all over the world. All you would need to do is learn a lot about abortifacient herbs/plants, make and price the kits accordingly, write a disclaimer saying that they're not intended to actually be used for abortions and that you're not liable for consequences of their use/ingestion, and put up a website where people could order your kits, and later in the game plants. Though it would be good to have bulk pricing options for resellers (I'm thinking places like head-shops). Though I could also see them being sold in lefty coffee shops, book stores, resturants, gardening stores, and maybe places like vitamin cottage.
Interestingly, I think this topic might also be related to the fall of the Roman Empire. The Romans, Greeks, and other surrounding civilizations at the time used a plant, Silphium, either as a form of birth control or a straight up abortifacient. Apparently it worked pretty well as they harvested it to extinction. Did the availability of contraception, and then the later lack of it have anything to do with the fall of the Roman Empire? You are part of the mystery.
