I have again defeated Russia. Though they (again) tried to invade my territory, I drove them back in to the Ocean.

A: Not much these days.

It seems the "preved" meme (see: ru_preved) has all but destroyed Russian efforts encouraging me to learn Albanian. For such an occasion, I have been saving some choice references Russians made about me from the good old days.

I first heard it in the audio version of A People's History of The United States, by Howard Zinn. It's from Martin Luther King Jr, in Pilgrimage to Nonviolence.

Don't ever let anyone pull you so low as to hate them. We must use the weapon of love. We must have the compassion and understanding for those who hate us. We must realize so many people are taught to hate us that they are not totally responsible for their hate. But we stand in life at midnight; we are always on the threshold of a new dawn.

Advocating non-violence is problematic, because there are so many obvious counter arguments and theres no shortage of people quick to point them out. They're largely missing the point.

What people can never really argue with, even though they try, is the effect of anger and hatred on them. Even objectivists types, who ironically raise the most objections to non-violence, do it because they don't have a good understanding of selfishness. If you're going to be selfish, and it makes sense to be, you should be wisely selfish. When you treat other people with respect and compassion you open up the door for them to treat you with respect and compassion. If you don't harbor anger or hate for your enemies, you spare yourself the suffering of being angry at them. If you introspect you'll see that there is true.

Of course, sometimes you will deal with unreasonable people, and being kind and gentle will be a idea. But, if you're really trying to be a selfish person, than you'll be happier if you hate less and aren't angry.
